Let’s Celebrate National Flossing Day!
This November 24th, most of us will be feasting on turkey and our favorite Thanksgiving foods. The following day is famous in the retail world as one of the busiest shopping days of the year. However, this November 25th we are going to be celebrating another important day that is not as well known, National Flossing Day!
National Flossing Day was established in the year 2000 and is always celebrated the day after Thanksgiving. This special day is dedicated to the importance of flossing your teeth and raising awareness about proper oral hygiene for your teeth and gums.
Importance of Flossing
Do you floss your teeth every day? If not, you should! The American Dental Association recommends patients floss a minimum of once a day. Unfortunately, we know that many of our patients skip this important step in their oral hygiene routine, even though it only takes a few short minutes. You may be surprised to learn that we are able to determine who regularly flosses their teeth and who does not. Flossing is imperative to help remove lingering food and bacteria that remains between teeth and along the gumline even after brushing. Patients who do not floss will have plaque buildup along the gumline, which can lead to issues, like:
- Bad breath
- Tooth decay
- Gum disease
Aside from flossing, one of the best ways to ensure optimal oral health is to maintain routine oral hygiene examinations and cleanings. If it has been some time since we’ve seen you and your loved ones, now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment. You can use any dental insurance benefits you have remaining before they reset in January. We also recommend scheduling any restorative treatment appointments we may have recommended in a previous appointment.
If you have any questions about how to floss or want to learn about products that we recommend, please contact us at our location in Spring Hill, FL. We hope you have a fabulous time flossing away, and we look forward to your next appointment.
